Churros with chocolate sauce

I have never tried churros before, but was told they are absolutely delicious. So Nosaiba decided to give them a go...and here it goes:



  • Skill level: Easy/medium (requires you to use both hands at same time)
  • Serves: 4-5 people
  • Prep time: 10 mins
  • Cooking time: 2-3 mins each batch
What you will need:

For the chocolate sauce

200g dark chocolate, broken into pieces
80g caster sugar
100ml double cream
50ml hot water

For the churros

125g self-raising flour, sifted
125g plain flour, sifted
pinch of salt
2 tbsp olive oil
400ml boiling water
vegetable oil for frying

To coat the churros
1 cup caster sugar 
1 + 1/2 tbsp cinnamon

How to make:

1) Make the chocolate sauce by placing all the ingredients under 'for the chocolate sauce' in a heat proof bowl, and place in the microwave for 1-2 mins, stirring in between. Leave in a warm place

2) To make the churros, combine the self-raising and plain flour in a large bowl, add the salt and mix. Add the olive oil, the slowly add the boiling water whilst stirring the mixture very well. Once all the water is added continue stirring vigorously until well combined

3) Place the mixture into a piping bag, preferably with a large star nozzle. If you do not have (like me), then do not place a nozzle on your piping bag

4) Gently pipe strips slowly into the hot oil, snipping off the mixture with scissors once it reaches a good length. Leave for a few minutes until golden in colour, then drain off on kitchen paper

5) Whilst the churros are still hot, roll them in the sugar and cinnamon mixture, then serve with the chocolate sauce



In order to get the shape correct, you need the pipping bag with a large star pipping nozzle, which I am on the hunt to buy inshAllah...then I can try and make these again.

These taste, like I was told, absolutely delicious. They are a bit like donuts, and are perfect treats!! Enjoy :)
