Yummiest macaroni cheese

My dear sister makes the yummiest macaroni cheese (well hers is the only one I have ever tasted - lol), so I asked her to share her recipe so I can make it, hence sharing it with you :)

  • Skill level: Easy
  • Serves: 5-6 people
  • Prep time: 35-45 mins
  • Cooking time: 20-25 mins
What you will need:

1 bag macaroni pasta (500g)
75g butter
75g plain flour
750ml - 1 litre milk
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
250g cheddar cheese, grated + extra for topping
2 balls mozzarella cheese, broken into pieces (125g each)

How to make:

1) Place the macaroni pasta in boiling salted water, and leave for 10-15 minutes, mixing in between to avoid sticking

2) Meanwhile, in a large pot, melt the butter on medium heat. Add the flour and mix very well for a few minutes, until the dough-like mixture does not stick to the sides of the pot

3) Slowly add the milk (1-2 tbsp at a time), mixing very well after each addition, until all the milk is well incorporated (if your arm begins to hurt, this means you are doing it correctly. This whole process will take you around 20 minutes)

4) Once all the milk is added, add the salt and pepper, alongside the cheddar cheese and 1 ball of mozzarella

5) Mix until all the cheese has melted. Drain the pasta and add it to the cheese mixture, mixing well to ensure the pasta is coated

6) Place the mixture into a deep roasting dish, then top with more cheddar cheese and 1 ball of mozzarella cheese, then place in the oven at 200 degrees Celsius for 20-25 minutes, or until the top has become golden

Oh this is so delicious mashAllah, and may I add, sooo healthy!! :P Enjoy :)

Well your sister makes a good macaroni then. I made this today, it was great....except I did forget one thing...that was to add the 1tsp of salt to the sauce. To be fair there is a lot of salt in cheese and butter anyway ;-p

Thanks for recipe. This is the first time i had had mozzarella in a macaroni cheese.
