Batata harra - بطاطا حرة

Batata harra is a Lebanese starter, comprising of fried potatoes, with a lovely kick from garlic and coriander. It is very simple to make, and tastes superb!

  • Skill level: Easy
  • Serves: 4-5 people
  • Prep and cooking time: 30 mins
What you will need

8-9 medium sized potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
vegetable oil for frying
1 tbsp olive oil
10 cloves of garlic, crushed
handful of coriander, chopped
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp cinnamon

How to make:

1) Salt the prepared potatoes, then fry in hot oil until golden brown (if you are preparing the potatoes in advance, soak them in water until you are ready to fry them). Transfer onto kitchen paper to soak up any excess oil

2) Meanwhile in a saucepan, heat the olive oil, then add the garlic and coriander, cooking for a few minutes over medium heat, then add the salt, pepper and cinnamon. After a few minutes, mix in the potatoes and ensure they are well coated

Serve with bread, and just see how tasty this starter is! Enjoy :)

  1. Nosaiba, Nosaiba, what can I say. There are so many wonderful recipes here and I couldn't decide what to make so I thought I'd give this a go today. Eventhough I did burn a few of the potatoes myself, it was still pretty tasty!
